1987 Film Basis
The Lost Boys is a rock-fueled musical adaptation of the iconic 1987 Warner Bros. horror-comedy film. The original cult-classic movie, which starred Jason Patric, Corey Haim, and Kiefer Sutherland, famously blended teenage angst, leather-clad biker culture, and traditional vampire lore against a quintessential 1980s rock backdrop.
Creative Team
The musical features a book by Tony nominees David Hornsby and Chris Hoch, with a propulsive indie-rock score and lyrics by the pop-rock trio The Rescues (Kyler England, Adrianne "AG" Gonzalez, and Gabriel Mann). The production is helmed by three-time Tony Award-winning director Michael Arden (Parade), with high-flying choreography by Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant, and a towering, multi-level set design by Dane Laffrey.
Synopsis
True to the film, the musical follows a divorced mother, Lucy, and her two teenage sons, Michael and Sam, as they relocate to the fictional, sun-drenched coastal town of Santa Carla, California—dubbed the "murder capital of the world." The family seeks a fresh start, but things quickly go off the rails when the older brother, Michael, falls in love with a mysterious girl named Star and gets lured into a dangerous, leather-jacket-wearing gang of teenage vampires. After Michael unknowingly drinks vampire blood, his witty, comic-book-obsessed younger brother, Sam, teams up with a pair of eccentric local vampire hunters—the Frog Brothers—to slay the undead pack's charismatic leader and save Michael before his transformation becomes permanent.
