Creative Team
The brilliantly chaotic Operation Mincemeat features a book, music, and lyrics by the British comedy collective SpitLip (David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson, and Zoë Roberts). Reprising their work for the tour are Robert Hastie (Olivier Award-nominated director), Jenny Arnold (Olivier Award-nominated choreographer), Ben Stones (Olivier Award-nominated set/costume designer), and Mike Walker (Olivier Award-winning sound designer).
Synopsis
Equal parts farce and high-concept spy caper, this fast-paced musical recounts the hilariously bizarre, completely true story of a secret WWII deception mission. In 1943, with the Allies on the ropes, a team of eccentric British intelligence officers concocts an improbable plan to trick Adolf Hitler: they acquire a stolen corpse, invent a fake identity for him as a British Marine captain, attach forged top-secret documents hinting at an invasion of Greece, and float the body into the sea to be intercepted by German spies.
Production History
Following its historic run as the best-reviewed show in West End history, the musical transferred to Broadway in 2025, where it was named the #1 Broadway Show of the Year by Entertainment Weekly. Building on its international momentum, the North American Tour launches on September 20, 2026, at the Providence Performing Arts Center. The massive 25-city tour runs through 2027, making multi-week stops at Chicago’s CIBC Theatre, Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre, and Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre.
Tour Cast Highlights
To match the frantic, fast-paced nature of the multi-rolling track structure—where five actors rapidly switch between dozens of characters—the tour features a powerhouse ensemble. While the touring company draws from top-tier theatrical talent, the show's acclaimed American identity was originally shaped on Broadway by stars like Julia Knitel, Jeff Kready, Brandon Contreras, Jessi Kirtley, and Amanda Jill Robinson.
Tony & Olivier Awards Recognition
Olivier Awards Success: The musical originated as a massive critical darling in London. At the 2024 Laurence Olivier Awards, Operation Mincemeat took home two major wins, including the prestigious Best New Musical award, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for original cast member Jak Malone.
Stateside Accolades: Following its cross-Atlantic transfer, the show continued its winning streak at the 2025 Tony Awards, where Jak Malone reprised his triumph by winning Best Featured Actor in a Musical, alongside multiple nominations celebrating the show’s brilliant writing and sound design.
