Creative Team

Just In Time is a sleek, highly theatrical bio-musical celebrating the explosive life and career of legendary showman Bobby Darin. Developed and directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge!), the production features a book co-written by Warren Leight (Side Man) and Isaac Oliver (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), based on an original concept by Ted Chapin and Jonathan Groff. The production features sharp, high-octane period choreography by Shannon Lewis, scenic design by Derek McLane, and music supervision and arrangements by Andrew Resnick.

Synopsis

The musical chronicles the meteoric rise and complex personal life of Bobby Darin, the multi-talented performer who conquered the music charts, Hollywood, and Vegas. Set inside an intimate, neon-lit lounge environment, the narrative follows Darin from his fragile childhood in the Bronx—where a severe bout of rheumatic fever left him with a damaged heart and a drive to live fast—to his rapid transformation into a rock-and-roll icon ("Splish Splash"), a slick big-band crooner ("Mack the Knife"), and a folk singer. Along the way, the show peels back the layers of his intense ambition, his high-profile marriage to starlet Sandra Dee, and the shocking family secret that upended his identity.

Production History

Following a hit Broadway engagement at the Circle in the Square Theatre, Just In Time adapted its unique, venue-transforming nightclub design for regional proscenium stages. The production officially launched its First National North American Tour in June 2027, kicking off at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady, New York. The initial leg of the tour focuses heavily on premier venues across the East Coast and Midwest—including multi-week stands at Washington D.C.'s National Theatre and the Des Moines Civic Center—with routing scheduled to expand through 2028.

Tour Cast Highlights

To capture the exhausting, charismatic vocal gymnastics and musical versatility required to play the show's titular icon, the production utilizes a stellar cast of powerhouse performers:

  • The Leading Man: Breakout star Matt Magnusson headlines the tour as Bobby Darin. Having previously blown Broadway audiences away while stepping into the role as a standout standby in New York, Magnusson takes full center stage for the road production, earning raves for his magnetic charm and soaring vocals.
