Creative Team

This acclaimed contemporary revival of Fiddler on the Roof features the immortal score by Jerry Bock (music) and Sheldon Harnick (lyrics), with a book by Joseph Stein. This specific production is helmed by visionary director Jordan Fein (Into the Woods), featuring striking, fluid choreography by Julia Cheng (Cabaret), and a minimalist, highly evocative scenic design by Olivier and Tony Award winner Tom Scutt.

Synopsis

Set in 1905 in the tiny, tight-knit village of Anatevka, the musical centers on Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman trying to raise his five headstrong daughters in accordance with religious and cultural Tradition. As his three eldest daughters choose love over arranged marriages, they progressively challenge Tevye's deeply ingrained beliefs. Set against the dangerous backdrop of a rapidly changing world and rising anti-Semitic Tsarist edicts, Tevye must navigate his daughters' modern desires while facing the heartbreaking reality of his community’s impending displacement.

Production History

This striking, bold staging originally premiered to rave reviews at London's Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in 2024 before transferring to the Barbican Theatre, where it shattered box office records to become the venue's best-selling musical of all time. After a massive tour across the UK and Ireland, the production launches its National Australian Tour on July 31, 2026, opening at the Theatre Royal Sydney. It will move to Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne on October 31, 2026, with further stops locked in for Brisbane and Perth, alongside a built-in option to extend into premier Asian theatrical markets through 2027.
