Creative Team

The Notebook features a deeply emotional indie-pop score and lyrics by multi-platinum singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson, with a book by Bekah Brunstetter (This Is Us). The production is co-directed by Michael Greif (Rent, Dear Evan Hansen) and Schele Williams (The Wiz), with choreography by Katie Spelman, lush scenic design by David Zinn and Brett J. Banakis, and music supervision by Carmel Dean.

Synopsis

Based on Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling 1996 novel and the hit 2004 film adaptation, the musical chronicles the lifelong love story of Allie and Noah, two people from vastly different worlds. The narrative unfolds across three distinct eras of their lives, portraying them simultaneously as teenagers falling in love against societal pressures, adults reuniting after years apart, and an elderly couple navigating the heartbreaking realities of Allie’s advanced dementia. It is a profoundly moving portrait of endurance, memory, and a love that defies time.

Production History

Following its 2022 world premiere at Chicago Shakespeare Theater and a subsequent 2024 Broadway run at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, The Notebook launched its official First National North American Tour in autumn 2025. The highly successful tour opened up major engagements across the United States and Canada—including major multi-week stops in Miami, Tampa, Washington D.C., and Detroit—and actively extended its booking route deep into 2027.

Cast Highlights

To realistically represent the passage of time across the sprawling narrative, the touring production employs three distinct pairs of actors to portray the central couple:

• The Allies:Chloë Cheers captures the free-spirited energy of Younger Allie, Alysha Deslorieux (Hamilton) plays the conflicted Middle Allie, and Sharon Catherine Brown delivers a devastatingly moving performance as Older Allie.

• The Noahs:Kyle Mangold stars as the passionate Younger Noah, Ken Wulf Clark anchors the production as Middle Noah, and Beau Gravitte portrays the faithfully devoted Older Noah.

Awards Recognition

• Broadway Production: The original 2024 Broadway staging received major critical recognition, picking up three Tony Award nominations, including Best Book of a Musical for Bekah Brunstetter, Best Leading Actress for Maryann Plunkett, and a historic Best Leading Actor nomination for veteran star Dorian Harewood.
