Just In Time features a book by Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver, based on an original concept by Ted Chapin. The jukebox musical is developed and directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge!), with choreography by Shannon Lewis and music supervision and arrangements by Andrew Resnick.

Synopsis

The show is an immersive, biographical celebration of the legendary mid-century crooner Bobby Darin. The production breaks the fourth wall instantly: the lead actor walks out as themselves under house lights, sharing their personal connection to Darin before completely morphing into the character. The narrative tracks Darin’s meteoric, urgent rise from a sickly youth in Harlem—given a strict expiration date due to a congenital heart condition—to a global superstar. Transforming the theater into an intimate, seductive nightclub with a live on-stage band, the production channels Darin's fierce vulnerability and relentless ambition through his most iconic hits, including "Splish Splash," "Dream Lover," and "Mack the Knife."

The musical originally evolved from The Bobby Darin Story, a 2018 concert series at the 92nd Street Y. It made its official, critically acclaimed Broadway debut in the round at the Circle in the Square Theatre, opening on April 23, 2025. The production is celebrated for its inventive, semi-immersive staging and powerful star vehicles.

Casting highlights across the Broadway run include:

• Jonathan Groff: Originated the role of Bobby Darin, earning a Tony Award nomination for his high-octane, emotionally raw performance before departing the production in March 2026.

• Jeremy Jordan: The Tony nominee stepped into the starring role in April 2026, putting his own electric, powerhouse vocal stamp on Darin's swagger and catalog. (Matthew Morrison briefly filled the vacancy between the two runs).

• The Supporting Ladies: The cast has featured Michele Pawk (and later Debbie Gravitte) as Darin's grandmother Polly, Emily Bergl as his sister/mother Nina, Erika Henningsen & Sadie Dickerson (and later Carrie St. Louis) as Hollywood starlet Sandra Dee, and Gracie Lawrence & Sarah Hyland (and later Olivia Holt) as pop icon Connie Francis.
